As a city with many children, Potsdam is very family-friendly. In fact, in 2007 it was declared the most family-friendly community in Germany. Numerous activities take place for your children and the whole family in the various areas of the city, such as meets and greets, play groups, sports, music, and parties. Please refer to the local newspapers or the local directories for families.
Family Free-time Passport With Potsdam’s family passport (Familienpass), your family can participate in the cultural, sports and educational activities for children and families at reduced prices. Please apply for the family passport in the Citizens’ Service Office. It is available to all families living in Potsdam (one parent, one child) and is valid for one year.
Local Directories for Families – Babelsberg, Am Stern In the local directories for families, you can find important addresses and contact information for children and parents in your area of residency. Please obtain your local directory at the Citizens’ Service Office, central information access points, and in businesses in your community.
Family Magazine Potskids The family magazine Potskids is a monthly periodical which contains information on current activities for children in Potsdam. Please obtain your copy in the places around the city with a focus on children and in central information access points.

Children’s University at the University of Potsdam Every year, a children’s university (Kinderuniversität) takes place at the University of Potsdam. Children can visit the university and take part in lectures especially prepared for children and youth.
Parents’ Network at the University of Potsdam The Parents’ Network (Elternnetzwerk) at the University of Potsdam is a network for students and employees with children. It is a contact point for all concerns regarding studying and working with children. The Parents’ Network organizes meets and greets for families with children.
